I'm Philip Linder. I'm a painter in Los Angeles that explores the convergence of office culture and mysticism.
My current 2026 Series, "Office Mystic," illustrates common office environments - conference rooms, desks, chairs, cubicles - with strange mystical objects placed in the interior environments. This series is ongoing, and I intend to show the full body of work in Early 2027 in Los Angeles.
My work explores the convergence of worlds that otherwise don't meet.
Shaped by my background in the military and the corporate world, I've become drawn to the strange overlap between two realities that rarely speak to each other: the corporate world of capitalism, goods, and the pursuit of money, and the world of mysticism that lies just beneath it. Spiritual people have always known that surface-level reality is only one layer of something deeper. In this series, I bring that hidden layer into visual form — letting the mystic push up through the corporate.
In my previous series, I painted corporate idioms.
Phrases like "Next Steps", "Action Items", and "Circle Back" rang in my head all day long. I brought those phrases to visual life with a series of 8 paintings - each depicting different corporate idioms and the unspoken meaning hidden behind the words.
I'm deeply influenced by the work of Carl Jung and Depth Psychology.
When I was first starting to paint, I read a ton of Jung. His ideas irrevocably changed the way I saw life, and helped me mature as an artist that didn't start painting until I was in my 30s. Some of my earlier works are abstract depictions of Jungian psychological concepts like the unconscious, the persona, the anima/animus, etc.
